Work has begun on the Pialligo Road and Oaks Estate Road intersection to improve safety and traffic flow.
Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester, said the project is fully funded by the Black Spot Programme.
“The programme is a crucial part of the Australian government's commitment to reduce crashes on our roads,” Chester said.
“Nationally, the Australian government has committed $500 million to the Black Spot Programme from 2014–15 to 2018–19, including an additional $200 million over two years from 2015–16.”
Works will include the installation of traffic lights to enhance safety, as well as other various traffic signals.
Minister for Transport and Municipal Services, Meegan Fitzharris, said the works would greatly benefit motorists.
“There are no expected road closures during these works, however there will be some changed traffic arrangements including lane closures and reduced speed limits in place,” Fitzharris said.
“I would like to thank residents and road users for their patience while works get underway.”
The project is expected to be completed mid-June 2016.
